Medication safety at home: a simple guide

Medicines only work when they are taken correctly and stored properly. If you take more than one prescription, a little organisation goes a long way.

Storing your medication

Most tablets and capsules do best in a cool, dry cupboard away from direct sunlight. The bathroom is often the worst place because of heat and humidity from the shower.

Using a weekly organiser

A pill organiser is a small change that reduces missed doses dramatically. We can set one up for you and refill it every week as part of our monitored dosage service.

Everyday habits that help

  • Fill your organiser at the same time each week
  • Keep it out of reach of children
  • Take a photo of your current medication list on your phone
  • Bring old or unused medicines back to us for safe disposal

When to speak to us

If you notice a side effect, feel unsure about a new medicine or want a full medicines review, book in with our pharmacist. There is no charge for a chat.
